Greetings from the Director

Dr. Hajime Watanabe, Director
Society 5.0, which will be realized through IoT that connects everything and AI that generates intelligence from data, is expected to bring economic development and solutions to social issues through advanced integration of cyber space (virtual space) and physical space (real space). However, in such a society, there are sophisticated and complicated threats that are combined with attacks in cyberspace, attacks in physical space, and attacks at the boundary between the two. AIST Cyber Physical Security Research Center, under the leadership of Dr. Matsumoto (currently AIST Fellow), has conducted research and development of technologies to deal with these threats from November 2018 to March 2025, and has achieved various results (please refer to this website). However, research and development of cyber physical security is still in its infancy, and new threats are emerging as a result of technological advances. AIST established the Cyber Physical Security Research Institute in April 2025 to continue research and development. The Cyber Physical Security Research Institute aims to realize the security of industrial infrastructure that creates value across cyber space and physical space through the development of security enhancement and evaluation technologies and their deployment to society, as well as the development of security assurance schemes and their introduction into the system. The realization of cyber physical security cannot be achieved by AIST alone. We would be grateful for your cooperation and support. Thank you very much for your cooperation and support.
